Ernest,
One hose goes to a nipple that comes out of the block near the
thermostat. The other is connected to a nipple on the water pump.
Both are tupically for 5/8" heater hose.

As for the radiator issue, some cars have a small tube that runs from
the top of the radiator back to the pressure tank in the engine
compartment. Idea is to automatically bleed trapped air in the
radiator. My car has it also.
