| Subject: | Advice on Spark Plugs.... |
| Date: | Wed, 12 Apr 2000 04:37:52 -0400 |
Hello All...
I am in the process of changing my plugs...Autolite 25's Resistor....and I
can not seem to find the same plugs. As a note...Autolite is now owned by
Allied Signal.
The 25's run good...nice brown color ...so I thought I would keep the
current type of plugs.
The guys at many common So. Cal parts stores...Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Napa,
private shops etc...and one race shop.....can't seem to find the plugs I
want.
The problem being that the "old" plugs are a shorter type ( length ) , and
the "newer" plugs are longer. The long part is the metal body, and ceramic
insulator, not the threaded part that goes in the cylinder holes.
I was also told that my current plugs are a 15 year old type, and no longer
made......which seems to be the case so far !
I also have a new complete set of Autolite 27's on hand ...of the short old
type.
Having owned many other engines, stock, and racing type, I always believed
that a "longer" plug would be a "hotter" plug....hince my hesitation to use
the newer plug.
But having never owned a "Cleveland" engine....I thought I would put the
questions I have to you all.... :-) Here ya go.....
1) Does the "hotter heat range long plug" rule still apply to New...modern
plugs ? Or is it.. longer...cooler....oh no, I am getting old...I can't
remember !
2) What is your suggestion on the "new long" Autolite's...good, bad ?
3) Should I use the 27's....and when they are gone...what then ?
4) Any of you have other plugs you like, and have had good luck with ?
Yes...I have seen the Platinum Plug thread.....never like them, so please
don't go there :-)
Thanks much......Tom Racerman@MSN.com Yellow No..4986
