The LA Times this morning had an article stating that the
> Smog II program has been 'watered-down' sufficiently that
> it is not effective in lowering smog in California. The
> California Air Resources Board is concerned that Calif
> will not meet the EPA mandated clean air requirements.
>
> Specifically they named laws such as the 'pre 74
> collector car exemption' for being responsible for this
> ineffectiveness. They also referred to general 'consumer
> friendly' laws that took the effectiveness out of smog
> II. They claim that thru these laws, Smog II has become
> ineffective and that polluting cars are escaping repairs.
>
> There is a meeting planned for May 2 in Sacremento where
> CARB folks will discuss rescinding some of these laws.
>
> You can read the article at www.latimes.com (search on
> 'smog'). Also, once again, write your state
> representatives.
