These are the comments made by the top 3 in the post qualifying
interview:
Interviewer: - Michael, thats your first pole of the year on
what is traditionally a Mclaren track, how satisfying is this
moment ?
M.Schumacher: - Well, it is obviously satisfying, but honestly
if you look back since the beginning of the season we always
had the opportunity but we did not use the opportunity. As you
see, things are so close, you need to do everything right you
can do it; if you just do a little mistake or if you have some
flags, then obviously you don't do it. Obviously Pole position
is nice, but the race counts and thats why I want to wait until
tomorrow
I: - You mentioned the word "perfect" there. Given the amount
of testing you do around here, was that lap as close to perfect
that you can get?
M.Schumacher: - Unfortunately with these conditions here, with
the wind, you always feel that you could have improved here and
there a little bit, whether you do or not it is another question
mark. But it probably was as good as it could have been in the
circumstances.
I: - Mika, you seem to have been fighting the car a lot in the
practice sessions up to now ? Does the car deserve to be in Pole
position ?
M.Hakkinen: - Yes, (laughs) I think we did not get 100 percent
clear run until the last run really. I did not really get the
opportunity to maximise it.
I: - Rubens, it seems that you could have caught Mika on your last
run, but you lost it on the second section. Could you tell us
what happened ?
R.Barrichello: - As Michael said, I think it was quite windy and
unpredictable sometimes when you were out there - in a way I thought
the car was better this morning with the set up, than it was this
afternoon. Not that we changed that much, but I did not feel the
car was as good this afternoon. In a way it is good to be in the
top three but I am disappointed not to be on the first row because
I think it should have been better.
I: - Are the handling problems of Silverstone behind you ?
R.Barrichello: - We still have some kind of a problem. This morning
my steering wheel was still funny; I think the team is getting on
top of it because they know what we need for the future basically.
If we do a change we need to check quite often what is going on.
I: - Michael, for the race tomorrow - how important is the start for
you? At Imola and Silverstone you had some bad getaways, is it all
going to happen at the start tomorow ?
M.Schumacher - Afterwards you know more, generally if you get a good
start you can lead the race and you can plan your tactics from the
leading position, it is always slightly easier than being in the
challenging position. We have proven that we can win even from behind
so it is not the most necessary but it helps.
