Hi All:
Just a quick update on #2428's progress. I finished cleaning the
passenger side rear wheel well area. After taking 30 odd years of grime
and grit, that side's ready for a coat of black POR-15. At this time, I
decided to punch out the hole for the parking brake cable going to the
brake.
I did some measurements using the driver's side holes as a template.
Transferring that info to the passenger side, I marked off the area with
a pencil and used an awl as a punch to indent the metal repair area (the
metal stringer repair). I followed up by drilling pilot holes. My intent
was to make the hole just big enough to use a Greenlee chassis punch
(from my radio restoration days) to create a perfect hole ala the
factory. Unfortunately, I almost forgot about the POR patch I created
within an inch of the target area. I accidentally stuck my thumb in that
area and realized my earlier application of the POR patch hadn't cured .
I'll have to wait tomorrow for the POR to dry before I proceed.
Just a note: if you intend to do any sort of metal punching of the
chassis, USE A GREENLEE! They will provide you a perfect hole to pipe
through wiring, hoses, or what have you without that oblongated uneven
amateurish look created by using a file. FYI. Cal. #2428.
