It can be done
I cut the origional in half and removed it
I fabricated a 2 piece stainless unit and pop rivited the oieces togetherin the car
Looks and works great

Just a quick question.
Can a Stainless Steel Gas Tank Shield be installed with the engine present?
I just finished polishing out the factory aluminum shield and although it
looks pretty good, it is deeply pitted and scratched in many places and I
would like to cover it with one of those fancy schmancy stainless covers but
would like to spare the expense until a later date.
