| Subject: | Cooling system filter/screen |
| Date: | Tue, 6 Jun 2000 00:27:40 -0400 |
Has anyone else tried filtering or screening the cooling system in their
cars. If so did you leave it on permenantly? The reason I ask is that
after redoing the entire cooling system with a new radiator, tubes and water
pump, I thought it would be a good idea to filter the cooling system to
prevent garbage from the engine from being churned up and getting into the
radiator. I installed a y-type 40 mesh screen made for irrigation systems
by pumbing into the main cooling tubes. I thought after a short time that
I would filter out the loose stuff and then the system would clear. After
maybe 50 miles I don't get a lot of stuff but the screen does continue to
collect small grains of sand like stuff and now I am wondering if it will
ever stop. This probably would take a long time to clog the radiator but
since I have a way to remove it I wonder if I should take the screen out.
Anyone have any similar experience.
