Phil, If the car doesn't produce a lot of black smoke when the stumbling
is going on, then it is suffering from a lean condition under
acceleration. Backfires are a classic indication for this.
If the car will eventually achieve a high speed and then run without
problems, you can probably rule out a bad fuel pump/ filter, as then the
fuel delivery is OK.
Lacking this, it sounds like the accelerator pump diaphram is leaking
and not pumping. A rebuild /kit is in order.
BTW, I appreciated your comments on the Corvette seats; I'm looking for
something which supports better, and these sound like the way to go.
