Yo My Peeps,
Doesn't get too much better then it did today. Found out the Phoenix passed
its 4-wheel alignment test with flying colors on Friday (thanks Bobby) and
next week end should be its homecoming at Donut Derelicts if all goes well
...BTW Donut Derelicts easily had 200 or so cars this morning.....and
easily another 500 cups of joe and 3000 donuts - there were more L.A.P.D.
then at a Police Sting Operation!!! Today we were honored by Mr. Dave
Adler/Pantera International <www.panteracars.com> who brought down his
Group4 vintage race Pantera,"WhipLash" for everyone to lust after....We also
had several other Pantera's with owners in town including a coool newbie Jim
Kuchera brought with him, named Steve Berroth who bought the early yellow 71
push button Pantera that Gary Hall had for sale 3 months ago. Steve will be
joining the TPOC chapter and should be at the next TPOC meeting Colin.
Steve is a former racer and has laid 2 or 3 Harley's down at least 2 or 3
times "each" back in the day so he had NEW stories for everyone to hear! :-)
After breakfast we all cruised over to the Marconi museum and I gotta say my
pal Al Chelini did a "outstanding" job on the Marconi Museum & Detailing
Class and the fully catered Italian lunch that followed was also
outstanding. This also included a raffle and goodie bags full of car stuff
for everyone who attended and all this was FREE!!! Even after 1,000 donuts
people were hungry. The detailing class centered around "how to" properly
detail and repair sun and environmentally damaged and scratched paint. In
particular the use of 3M professional detailing products to get rid of
scratches in paint, etc. Al Chelini was able to get 4 major sponsors
including 3M, Tom's Custom Auto Body (www.tomscustomautobody.com), Precision
Pro-Formance (562-691-2526), and ABC Products who all footed the entire
event bill. He also had the local Ferrari Club in tow and they had a bunch
of Ferrari's including a F-40 there as well. Greg Sullivan came up from New
Mexico on biz and Bobby & Don Byers had a tent set up in the parking lot and
Jerry Sackett and John Parsons of PI Motorsports also showed up to say hi.
The museum has a number of race cars and motorcycles including the John
Player F1 that Mario Andretti drove in the F1 world championship.....but
what REALLY caught me eye was a Dennis Quella prepared early Pantera which
had 1100 "rated" HP. I'm not sure about the 1100 HP but the car was
beautiful and Dick Marconi has turned down a number of offers to buy the car
from local collectors. As I recall Dennis Quella prepared the car initially
and did the race preped 427 side oiler engine swap. Either Dennis or
someone else added the nitrous which may explain the claimed HP
number....Just curious, anyone on the Forum have any history on the car???
I seemed to recall an old PI story about one of Dennis' 427 engine swaps.
Again, great event Al!!!
