Don't know. Probably a good paper element and change it often (they tend
to plug up sooner than a K&N). I've go a new $50 K&N for my 4.6 that I'm
probably not going to use. If we can believe Amsoil (if you can't trust
Amsoil, who can you trust), then a high quality paper unit is as good as
theirs in cleaning, and better than anything else. See the graph at the
bottom of http://www.amsoil.com/products/ts.html. You just won't go as fast.

Initially I used Amsoil, then switched to Castrol. It was more like 15K
or a year or so.

Actually a good bypass filter is probably the best thing you can do. It
should keep things close to 0 miles clean all the time. Problem is
finding a place to fit one in. Also, if one of the hoses blows off....
