I have heard of it and seen it but a little differently
I saw the mothballs, the soft ones placed inside the air cleaner.  The
vapors cause a similar effect to nitros.  It is not much but worth perhaps
20HP.  Must you must have the soft mushy kind, the hard ones dont evaporate
fast enough.
