I sent the following to Tracy Runner in answer to his "frame rails what to
do ???" post. I thought I posted it to the list too but didn't. Of
particular interest is the "Corrosion Control" product linked to below. I
just ordered some. I'll try most anything once :)

Also, I'll ask one more time: does anyone have experience with the "The
Electro-Shield" system? http://www.electroshield.co.za/ JC Whitney sells
it (has been for years).

Anyway, here is the original post.....

Tracy,

As you can tell, POR-15 is somewhat of an inside joke. There are a number
of fans of it (myself included). I've covered most of the non-yellow parts
of my restoration with it (http://home.earthlink.net/~rbarkley/Pantera).
BUT, like anything it has it's limitations. It can be applied directly over
rusted surfaces BUT the loose rust should be removed first. The problem
with pouring it (or any paint) into unprepared areas is that it could
provide a trap (by only partially covering or if a hole gets started) for
water and causing more rust than it cures. POR-15 has the added problem, since
it is moisture cured, that if there is any trapped moisture, it is sure to
not cure correctly.

So, what to do about hidden areas? Here is a product I ran across a while
back that looks pretty good. It is oil based and penetrates and creeps into
areas that other treatments can't and will not form pockets. One caution:
test it before applying around the passenger compartment (like in the
doors) to make sure it won't give of fumes. I used a petroleum/wax product
years ago and smelled it for years after.

"Corrosion Control" See it at
http://store.yahoo.com/tolae/rusproofwitw.html This is a pretty
interesting site and they have the best price ($39.95). They also like
Panteras http://www.topoftheline.com/tolae/profchem.html There are a couple
of
other places that sell the same thing for up to $99!

Also, go to Mike Dailey's site and check out the page on corrosion
(http://www.PanteraPlace.com/page57.htm). Try to blow the dirt out of as
many of the trap areas as you can and close up as many of the dirt entry
areas as possible. One of the prime areas was mentioned by Mike Drew - the
door pillars (lower). Most, if not all, of the dirt that gets trapped in
there (in the curved section as it meets the rocker and in the rockers) is
from dirt blowing around in the engine compartment that gets into various
holes. Check the backside of the door pillar: there are two holes behind
the striker, the big hole where the wires go through the rocker (on the
right), and two big "vents" (for what purpose I don't know) just behind the
firewall in the "tube" that forms the upper structure for the rear of the
car. Cover as many of these as you can.
