You figured it out correctly- weld a new stud on. It may be easier to weld to the broken end of the stud rather than smoothing it off and trying to weld to the middle of a flat plate. Either the stud was overtightened, or the swaybar was overstressed somehow. Our Pantera came with a broken stud, so I suspect it's common. Good luck- J DeRyke
