I got my Pantera in 1997. I've always felt like there was more power
available in the engine than it was giving me. It came with what appears to
be an old-style hot rod job on a 351C: Holley (I believe it's a 750 double
pumper) carburetor with the horn shaved off (no choke), Torker intake,
performance cam of unknown make or spec., Chevy roller rockers, Unilight
distr., and I don't know what else. I had to rebuild the carb after getting
it, but still, it just didn't seem to be putting out it's potential. Now, for
quite some time, it coughs through the carb when I try to start it, when I
try to accelerate, and above about 3500 rpm, even after it's warmed up. Also,
at one time, I was told by someone following me that flames were shooting out
the exhaust. Does this sound like the infamous distr. roll (shear) pin
problem? What does it sound like?
Also, not long after I bought it, I gave it a compression test. These are the
numbers:

cyl psi

1 165
2 195
3 175
4 165
5 170
6 165
7 165
8 170

What does that high #2 cyl reading mean?

Thanks for your help,
Zack & the sick kitty (6667)
