The factory Group 4 motors (eventually) ran dry sump systems with mixed
success.
Gary Hall's Burgundy Express race car has a dry sump system. Normally it
works fine, but I also have seen at least one track day go up in smoke for
then-driver Bobby Byars when the drive system (toothed belts on the front of
the motor) vaporized somehow....
