Last night a friend suggested what many of you suggested today was that the
oil pump might have seized. So last night I installed the oil pump drive
shaft and it was indeed frozen. This morning I removed the oil pump and
removed the oil pump cover. I could not see any F.O.D. but it was frozen
solid as a rock. I had to knock the impeller out with a punch and hammer and
then I found the REAL reason of the failure. There was stuck in the tip of
the impeller a piece of wire .050 in diameter by .420 long. It left an
imprint in the impeller. Question though there was a screen on the oil pump
pick up and the wire would not pass through the screen. I thought it might be
part of the spring for the oil pump bypass however I cannot remove it by hand
to look. Maybe with a B.F.H. (big F*$#ing hammer) I will remove it later as
I will obviously need a new pump.
I think even if I had installed a bigger roll pin in the Distributor it would
have sheared anyway or twisted the shaft. I could not believe the force
needed to disassemble the oil pump.
