Friends,
Thank you for your responses. I have been to Rob's site many =
times, it's been a big help. Rob and friends assembled his 351w from =
the block up for the Pantera. My engine on the other hand is complete =
but must have some parts changed out for proper operation in the Pantera =
i.e.. engine comes for serpentine belt operation (reverse rotation water =
pump) and must be changed over to v-belt (standard rotation). Bought a =
standard rotation (left inlet) and it fit but upon closer inspection =
(surprise!) the water ports did not match correctly, hence the new =
timing cover (standard rotation of course)
As for the 351c, I took it up to 5500 one time through 1st and 2nd, =
it failed at 2500 rpm. Inspection showed a con rod broken in the middle =
and badly mangled at the break (crank side), the cam was in pieces and =
there were a few holes in the block. Both ends of the broken rod move =
freely on there attach points (wrist pin/crank).
The car did sit for extended periods, was not abused (as far as I =
know) and the engine was clean but with a fair amount of sludge in the =
pan. No corrosion or pitting of cam lobes or followers was evident. It =
was popping back at idle or at deceleration sometimes and I was on my =
way to get some help with setting the timing when the engine failed.
Thanks,
Mark
