I should just point out, having done minor research on this, that 
what we know as the stock steering wheel is, apparently, a Mercury 
Capri POS steering wheel. It was used, again apparently, because the 
beautiful original stock wheel (black with silver spokes and a Ghia 
logo in the center - I have a pic of it on a sales brochure) was not 
padded.

I bought an aftermaket La Carra wheel with silver spokes (from 
Pantera Performance) since it was the closest I could easily find to 
the original original.
