Subject:Heater Tube Removal

In my ongoing disassembly of my car, I find that the heater tubes that
run through the center console are rusted. I looked through the
archives and all recommendations are to replace the metal tubes with
high quality rubber hoses and add the shutoff valves in the engine
compartment, so that is what I will do, but I still have a question.

Question: How do you get the old metal tubes out of the car? Most say
abandon in place, but this leave little room for the new hose. One of
the lines twists and moves a bit. I suspect if I get a pipe cutter or
saw on it, it will come out. Are the tubes clamped in, spot welded in
or is it just a tight fit?
