Hey Richard...
Based on enthusiastic comments by Mike Drew and Rick Moseley (check the
archives) I replaced my dead stocker with a gear reduction starter from:
Tom Seffron
West Coast Alternator & Starter, Inc.
7940 Convoy Court
San Diego, CA 92111
(858) 292-5099
In June of last year I paid $125 for mine (exlusive of tax and shipping).
It sounds bitchen, it works great, it's cheap (compared to a Tilton) and
it's substantially lighter than the stock unit (7.8# versus 17.4# according
to my bathroom scale).
The archives mention a jumper wire that the user has to fabricate and
install but Tom included a hand-drawn diagram...and the jumper was already
in place.
The mounting flange on the starter is about a quarter of an inch thicker
than the stock flange, so you'll need a pair of longer bolts.
Cheers...
..Adam
