Gang,
Here in LA, there is this event held every Thursday nite, each at a
different location. It's called Car Nite, and you never know exactly
what or who you'll see.
Anywhere from 50 to 300+ people show up. This has been going on for
over 20 years. No fees, no club, no dues, no organization, free food
(but a donation is nice).
This week, amid a Rolls Royce / aviation/ antique auto collection as
well as the "Professor Fate" submarine from "The Great Race", I met the
creator of our little yellow Hot Wheels Pantera, Mr. Larry Wood of
Mattel.
He said he got some shots of one of Gary Hall's cars, sent the photos
to China, and got back some great drawings as well as a prototype. For
about $250,000.
Also there were: the fire chief of Redondo Beach, who collects 1920's
era full size fire trucks; and Ken, who runs the massive cranes used to
unload ocean cargo liners. Both collect antique cars and other
memorablia.
If any LA'ers want to attend some of these events, let me know.
Al.
