Bob,
Occasionally Mike is wrong. Fortunately for you this is one of those
times! Hooking up the A/C is next on my list. I've got most all the
parts, just got to do it. As you may remember (if you've been paying
close attention) I've got the Wilkinson Fluidyne Alu radiator. I have it
layed forward about 2.5 in. In that position there is plenty of room for
2 Spal low profile sucker fans behind the radiator. I posted the details
on these last summer I think.
I'm using a "super flow" condenser I got from Air-Tique. I can get the
P/N if needed. Vintage air has the same (I think) thing for a few bucks
more. It's a very nice solid unit and is supposed to be about 40% more
efficient than a traditional tube/fin design. It's 20 x 12 x 3/4". I
have it mounted on the top flange of the radiator over to the left side.
In this position, the lower left corner just clears (by about 1/4") the
valance and the top of the grill work. If it were more centered, there
would be better clearance. I've got the receiver drier mounted up front
(as opposed to the wheel well). I may have to go with a hard tube from
the cond to the R/D, but hoping I can use rubber. I'm running the high
pressure gas through the inner rocker to the wheel. The low pressure gas
will also return through the inner rocker.
One thing about the radiator. In that position, as Steve predicted,
there is a slight interference fit (1/8"?) with the hood rib. You can
ignore it, or do what I did: chop off the radiator feet, cut off about
1/4" back, 3/8" front (so they are angled to better match the grommets)
and JB Weld them back in place.
