Subject:Engine stand for the Pantera

All:
I made a comment earlier about modifying a Jegster engine stand (cat
#550-1008) for use in the Pantera. If you take a look at the Jeg's catalog,
they show a version that has a Chevy small block complete with wheels and a
trans sticking out of the back. I ordered what I thought would be a version
for the Ford. Nope, no joy. Apparently, it is a deluxe version that they
show (plus it cost about $30 more and they don't have one like that
available for the Ford). So I began modifying the current unit. A trip to
the local hardware store and a four steel casters later (with some help from
my MIG), I now have a mobile 351C!

Next item is to modify the stand so that it will allow mounting of the ZF to
the Cleveland (just like those pictures of the units at the factory).
However, this will be more of a challenge. The current configuration has the
stand mounting the engine by using not only the engine mounts in the front
but two of the bottom bellhousing mount points at the rear. There is one
transverse bolt mount point on the left rear side of the engine that I plan
on using (I don't know what it's used for but the bolt hole is slightly
bigger than the trans mount bolt hole and that will replace the current left
mount). The right rear mount will still be used except that rather than do
it from the rear, I'll have to figure out a way to use it from the other
side. However, when I mount the bellhousing, there are those two starter
bolts I still have to worry about.

In any event, this will be an interesting bit. I'll be taking the usual
"analog" pix (still trying to locate a digital camera. Anyone got a used one
they can sell me? I promise to post pix if I do get one).

So, I'm still waiting on the new throwout bearing to come from Castlerock.
Just about everything else is coming together. Cal #2428.
