Firing Order: 351C: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8  distributor rotates CCW (as viewed from 
above)

The book is designed to cover many types of Fords.  Thus it is intended to 
confuse the reader.  The picture shows a distributor layout for a 429/460 V8. 
Note 1 (in the circle) directs you to the text below which says the 
1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 applies to 302, 351, and 400 engines and the other firing 
order applies to the 429/460s.

The picture also shows that the #1 wire should be placed adjacent to a the 
driver side distributor cap hold down clip.  This is a CONVENTION and is not 
strictly required.  The #1 wire can go in any terminal as long as the rotor 
point to that terminal when the #1 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke.

If it runs with the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 keep 'er goin'.....'cause you'll have the 
only one that ever will :<).
