To all you road racers out there,
Mike Frazier and I are planning our assault on the Big Bend
race (similar to the Silver State) in the first weekend of
April. We plan to run in the 100-average class for our
first foray into this type of competition. Unlike SS, this
event is run in two legs with each person getting to drive
one or both. We plan to each drive a leg.
The car is basically sound having the following work
completed in the past 18 months:
Rebuilt motor
Rebuilt ZF
New suspension including Koni's
GTS springs
10 qt. oil pan
10" Campy's and new H rated BF Goodrich tires all around
New Wilwood brakes with Porsche rotors on the front
New hi-volume alum. water pump
I also have the lay down kit on the radiator with two
Wilkinson sucker fans. The new alum. radiator from him is
still sitting in the box awaiting installation.
To prep, Frank Jerome is going to:
1. install my racing seat
2. install a set of drivers side racing seat belts
3. install the fire extinguisher
4. change the synthetic oil in my 10 qt pan
5. tune the car
6. put on a new front spoiler
7. check the u-joints & trans
8. perform a general racing tech of the Pantera
We hope to borrow a trailer from one of the local Pantera
guys and tow the car out. I don't have a scanner, stop
watch or GPS yet. I doubt I'll invest in GPS at this
point. Any advice for us first timers?
Scott Black
