Hi guys,
Once again blatently taking advantage of the opportunities my job offers,
coupled with the wonderful capabilities of the DeTomaso Forum, I hooked up
with fellow lister Dave Rehburg this afternoon in Toronto, meeting him for
the first time.
He picked me up in his daily driver (a Suzuki Sprint--the complete antithesis
of his other cars!) and then took me to the showroom where he had originally
purchased his Pantera. Turns out this place is nationally known, as they
produce a show for Speedvision (I forget what it's called--Dream Garage or
something like that?) and shoot it on the premisis. It was jammed with
musclecars and exotics for sale--several hemi Cudas and Challengers, a
Ferrari Daytona and Boxer, original 289 Competition Cobra, etc.
After a 50-mile drive back to his town and a bite to eat, we went to his
workshop.
WOW! What a place! He has rented an entire industrial building, which used
to be the offices and repair facility for the state road works. The front
part of the building is basically empty (a TV repair shop used to be located
there) but the back half is ALL garage, and filled with wonderful stuff!
I was simply amazed at the toolage he had in there. Virtually any
specialized tool you could imagine finding in a high-end auto restoration
shop or engine shop could be found in there, plus a lot of stuff you won't
find. How many private people do you know who own a torque wrench
calibration tool? Or a valve spring dyno? He has a large room where some of
his cars are stored (Greenwood Corvette--are you listening Greg Sullivan?
Pantera and '69 Z/28; his 3500 mile Hemi Cuda (purchased new) and a few other
cars are in storage elsewhere.)
Here, take a look for yourself:

We had a great evening, just hanging out and shooting the breeze, as he
showed me one thing after another and another--cool tools, exotic parts, neat
features, and a car I'd never seen before (a genuine Greenwood
Corvette--street car, not a race car, although he's building a monster 502
big-block and plans to run 240 mph at Bonneville with it, then go cruising at
the burger joint afterwards!)
All in all, another great evening of Pantera Male Bonding. I'm looking
forward to returning next month; perhaps several of the Ontario guys can get
together and we can do a dinner or something?
Gotta love this forum!
Mike
