The open chamber 4v heads for my 72 Pantera are at the
machine shop in need of new valve spring retainers because
I have changed from stock valves with multi goove keepers to
Manley Stainless Steel Severe Duty valves with single groove
keepers. The machinist says there would be no tension on the
springs if installed as is. I asked the machinist if he could get
me the proper retainers to make this set up work. He said his
supplier didn't have such a retainer and that I would need to
locate the proper retainers or shorter valves. I am wondering
if all he has to do is use additional shims or is there a proper
retainer and lock to make this all work. I am planning to use
my original springs. I called Manley and asked the for the
correct retainers, they said they needed to know all of the
inside diameters of the spring and damper? The machinist said
he could get that info on his computer, but his computer was
down. If someone can tell me how to make this darn thing work,
it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Art
