None is closer to what I found last night as I was tackling this job!

What I concluded (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that the rod
adjustment provides the pedal height adjustment just like it does for the
brake booster. The farther it screws into the clevis, the lower the pedal
will be and the less stroke you will have. I have a Hall "CNC" after market
master and the effort reduction kit. Others may be different, but with this
setup, the pedal hits the stops before the end of the master piston does so
pedal height will determine the total stroke available.

I did a couple of things to make the installation and adjustment easier. I
put double jam nuts on the rod and set them up jammed together with about
1/4" thread showing. Without this, it's difficult to screw the rod into the
clevis and/or to adjust it. With it it's really easy. As you probably
already know, getting to the top bolt is a real bitch. Since I had the
whole assembly out, I considered making it into a stud (with some epoxy)
but chickened out. In retrospect, I wish I had. What I did do was use some
SS allen head bolts (5/16" which is almost identical - .0025" smaller - to
8mm). With a little tape in the socket, the allen bolt was easy to stick up
in the upper hole and it stayed there while I wrenched on the outside. The
lower bolt worked equally well. Getting the alen wrench back in the upper
one (to tighten it a little more) was a bit of a problem. The solution was
to use one of the "swivel end" allen wrenches. The one I had was 6 mm
(close enough to 1/4" needed) and was just the right lenght so that coming
straight back and down a bit, the short part of the L just rested on the
ledge of the body where I was able to vice-grip it to the body so I could
torque it on the outside.
