The 'classic' solution was 'any gear-drive starter' from Tilton, McLeod,
Hamburger, Hall et al. All used the same Hitachi rare-earth motor with a
custom snout to adapt it to various engine blocks. Chevy guys loved 'em
because they all use a remote solenoid which helped hot-starting on GMs about
as much as the gear drive torque. All these are less than half the wt of a
heavy-duty Ford 351 starter. I'd say that about any of the above-mentioned
brands will light your fire when smoking-hot. My McLeod went onto a 10-1/2:1
351C in 1989 and still started it at 'Vegas this year when it was pretty hot
all the time and REAL hot once of twice. Cheers- J deRyke
