As I was returning from the Mount Charleston brunch run near Vegas this
weekend, my engine let go.
I decided to limp back to the Plaza hotel because I could run the engine up
to 2000 rpm without it making
any noise. As we were creeping along the highway at about 40-45 mph, a
vehicle, that I did not recognize
pulled up beside me. It was Jim Kucera from TPOC, driving a rental vehicle.
We pulled over and explained
our situation to Jim. Jim headed back to the hotel at a normal pace and my
friend Roger and I continued
our slow journey. Much to my surprise, when I returned to the hotel, I ran
into Jim right away and he said
Bobby Byars might have an empty trailer returning to southern California. I
couldn't believe it, this group
of people is amazing! It turns out the Byar's friend Jeff Maxwell did in
fact have an empty trailer that he
offered to tow my car on.
I was able to get some folks to listen to my engine run and advise me
on what to do. Those people
included : John Parsons, Ted Mitchell, Larry Stock, and B.J. Filarski. The
advice was to tow it home,
something about a broken wrist pin or a spun rod bearing. Anyway, Jeff
towed my car back to the Byar's
shop, Bill and Diana Wright gave my freind and I a ride home and Colin Haney
hauled our luggage back for
us. We also had other offers to help.
My sincere thank you goes out to all these good people that helped out
when I was in a real bind.
