Jack,
Nice photo! They wouldn't let the regular spectators (like me) out to that
part of the track to take pictures.
Greg (in the yellow car in front) looked like he was going to do real well
until he lost control of the car and spun out on the back part of the track.
It took him at least 30 seconds to get back on the track and there were not
enough laps left in the race to get up to the front of the pack. But, Greg
was gaining on Dennis by about 3 to 4 seconds per lap. Dennis told me he
backed off after Greg spun to save his machinery. Greg, was pushing hard to
catch Dennis and looked like a rocket ship on wheels. It's nice to see one
of my fellow gray backs, use their driving experience, calmness and focus
under the pressure of the race, to win one! Dennis really knows his car and
it shows. Talk about going deep into the turns!
This was the first time I've seen a Pantera on a track and I was absolutely
stunned by the blinding speed of the cars. Even the mostly stock Pantera's
were getting around the track real fast. It all made me proud to be a
Pantera owner. The smell of the burning high-octane fuel, the sound of the
180 degree headers, the speed, it was all a really, really great experience.
Mike
