The Orange goes from the voltage regulator to the field winding thru slip
rings. The field winding is the rotating element and will read the same
resistance between the input pin and the alternator case for either polarity
of the ohmeter.

The Green/Red goes from the voltage regulator to the center tap of the three
stator windings. The stator windings are mounted to the case. The stator
winding will reading very different resistences between the input pin and the
alternator case depending on the ohmeter polarity.

The Black wire goes from the alternator output to the ammeter. The
alternator output pin will read very low and very high rsistance to the
alternator case for depending on the ohmmeter polarity.

The Orange and the Green/Red are fairly small gauge. The Black is quite
large gauge.
