The bolts holding my engine block to the mounting fixture have all
broken. I am having fun removing my engine now. The oil looks okay, (it
has about 700 miles in 9 quarts) but the filter looks bad.
The "sandpaper gripper" on the end of my Fram filter is burned off.
How hot has my oil been getting so that it would burn the sandpaper? I
suppose I should consider an oil cooler. I don't race, but it does get hot
in Austin TX, and I have had to shut it down when the fans failed due to
boiling noises. But I assumed that boiling point of water was a safe temp
for american iron.
I'm still wondering how 3 mount bolts became broken off, and one missing.
