Subject:Speedvision to become NASCARvision?
Date: Sun, 1 Jul 2001 13:56:06 -0400

Living in the southeast should make me a super rabid NASCAR fan but for some
reason, try as I may; NASCAR racing doesn't have much appeal to me. I'm
not sure why, the machinery is great and the cars are fast, but it just
doesn't seem to fit in the racing world anymore.

Back in the 50s, 60s and 70s they were real STOCK cars modified for the
track and it was awesome. The sound of a 1964 Ford 427 doing 140 was
breathtaking and the guys that drove those cars were real racers. Some of
the NASCAR performance stuff in those days would make it back into the
production cars. Some manufacturers would even make a car and engine just
to win at NASCAR and everyone benefited from the racing effort.

Does anyone know how the sport came to this sad end with the same old
purpose built cars that all look the same? Why do they even call in NASCAR?
What am I missing?

Mike
