Attention P-car fanatics in SE MN, SW WI, NW IL, & NE IA.
Earmark your calendars for Saturday, August 4, 2001.
Redwing, Minnesota, is having it's annual car show and civic
celebration. The car show is downtown, at the marina parking
lot (right downtown - hey, it's not that big a town -
between Highway 61 and Lake Pepin, aka that wide spot in the
Mississippi) from 9:00-3:00. Post show plans call for an
informal gathering for food, drink and gossip at the
palatial estate of Mark Weigenant. Mark is well known in
midwestern Pantera lore as the biggest restoration
procrastinator since Mike Drew! Mark's car is currently
undergoing a shell up reincarnation that will certainly set
the automotive world on it's ear (if it's ever finished,
that is). I don't know if the body will be back from Dennis Quella's
shop at the time of the party, but Mark has plenty of parts
and goodies that will surely titillate and excite even the
most jaded Pantera fan. I can personally guarantee that a
severe case of garage envy will beset most visitors! Plus,
he has an inground swimming pool - this is early August in
Minnesota, remember - so bring your suits. (I can just hear
you SoCal yahoos chuckling to yourselves about how someone
can make such a big deal out of a lifestyle necessity like
this!). Mark is experiencing some online difficulties, so I
am posting this on his behalf. His address is l655 Bluebird
Ln (call for directions, or stop at the Police station and
ask the authorities :o) and his phone is 651-388-7538. If
you plan on coming, please call a few days ahead so we can
get a head count on the food and drink requirements. For you
far-out-of-towners, this would be an excellent opportunity
to make it a weekend getaway. The roads in this part of the
country (particularly on the WI side of the Mississippi) are
fantastic for spirited driving through hill and dale and
there are many really first class rural eating
establishments in the immediate area that rival anything
that the big cities have to offer at a fraction of the price
(Martha Stewart would soil herself with glee at any of these
restaurants, believe me!). So, how about it? The Midwestern
Pantera fraternity is a pretty fractured group and Redwing
is, I think, a good spot to draw folks from varied locales.
Remember, real Pantera drivers don't wuss out when it rains.
See you there.
I will be posting this on a weekly basis, so I beg the
indulgence of the rest of you right and left coasters.
