Does anyone know the correct equation for converting rearwheel horsepower to
determine the flywheel horsepower? I had my Pantera on the chassis dyno
last week and I came up with 318.8 HP and 320.6 lb/ft of torque at the rear
wheels. (BTW I have pictures on my site:
http://www.scottcar.org/pantera.html ) The guy running the dyno said you
basically lose 15% through the drivetrain. So he did this on the
calculator: 318 / .85 = 374 (rounded) so he said I am making about 375 at
the flywheel. I was a little dissapointed as the car was supposed to have
350 stock. And the previous owner put a fair ammount of money into the
motor, so I thought it would have been a little higher.
I see that on Geoffs dyno sheet he made 398 at the rear wheels but indicated
550 at the flywheel. Using my equation it should only be 468 at the
flywheel. Is it possible that I am using the wrong equation? BTW Geoff the
car looks great!! (I'm still trying to get the video to download at the
moment... )

Well .... we did the dyno pull on 9365 Wed afternoon, and I've changed
my web page to include it for those that are interested. It actually looks
as though 9365 will be back on the road after 2.2 years of being off
the road! The video is short and the pull I recorded only takes
the engine to 5000rpm (6500rpm redline). She is making 398hp (296kw)
at the rear wheels. I won't even begin a short version of the drama's
during the last two years (you'll have to wait for the full frustration
relief version!!). So ... if you want to see & hear 406ci of fuel
injected, 11:1 compression, roller everything, forged everything,
steel everything and aluminium everything (in he right places) motor go to:
http://www.radx.net/~geoffs/detomaso.html
I'll start working on the details and full story .... alternatively
you can gather together a large number of $$$$ and just set a light
to it!!
