Stuart sent me this mail privately, but I think the comment may be appropriate to the entire list, especially since it is spring and there are a lot of "hi, I just bought my miata last week" type emails going around... > From: Ford Prefect> To: Matthew Squires > Subject: CD players & bumps > Date: Wednesday, March 31, 1993 3:36PM > > Hello- > > Just for the record, I have not taken my miata past 5000 rpm. But, it > only has 500 or so miles on it :-) Be careful about babying you engine too much, or it may act like a baby on you. According to "Miata MX-5 Guide" by Jay Lamm (Motorbooks International) (c) 1990 the Miata Club of America says that every 100 miles for the first 1,500 you should accelerate at full throttle in second gear from 2000 rpm to 6000 rpm with the engine fully warm. I've asked people at the local miata club about this and they agree, it helps set the pistons and rings and who knows what. Other than this once evry hundred miles vroom, you shouldn't get the car above 4000 rpm for the first 1500 miles, the book says. MattSkew
