In the May/June issue of Grassroots Motorsports magazine was an article about a Miata used as a development test vehicle for Eibach Springs. In addition to the numerous suspension bolt-ons were some interesting engine performance ideas. Most notable was the replacement of the fuel injectors with those of a stock Toyota 4A-GE engine such as those found in Toyota MR2s Corolla GTSs and FX 16s. The article indicated that the Toyota injectors flow about 20% more than the stock Miata injectors. Other engine modifications included an HKS Powerflow Airbox, an RC-Engineering modified throttle body to increase intake capacity, a Millen exhaust header, and HKS exhaust system and HKS cams. Running 16 ignition advance, the engine was Dyno tested to produce 132 HP at 6800 RPM and 115 lbs./ft of torque at 6000 RPM. This figures to a 14% gain in horsepower and a 15% gain in torque. The power band was supposed to be quite a bit more broad and flat than stock. My question at this point is has anyone performed the injector transplant? If so, have you noticed any appreciable gain in performance? On the other hand have you noticed a notable drop in fuel economy? Eric Fancher Tejas Miatas Austin, Texas
