Miata list members, I'm taking a poll on the rattling heat shield at 3750 RPM. 1. Have you had this problem? 2. What is the year of your miata? 3. If you had this problem, did you get it fixed under warranty? 4. If under warranty, did the dealer "strap" the shield? 5. If under warranty, did the dealer replace the offending part? You can reply directly to ej@silma.com rather than plug up the list server. I'll post the summary to the list. Motivation for the survey: I get as many different answers as there are dealers on how this problem is covered under warranty. IMO, the desired fix is to replace the offending part with the improved design rather than the baling wire approach - after all this is nearly a $20k car we're talking about. Dealers are very fussy about the related service bulletins - they won't read them to you and won`t show them to you. I don't think the one dealer who will replace the part should bear the burden and expense of all the dealers who would rather strap it. I'd like to take the results of the survey to Mazda. Of course, if anyone can come up with a reason why strapping is superior to replacing the problem part, I would love to hear it since perhaps my concerns are unfounded. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eric Jacobs Internet: ej@silma.com Voice: (408) 725-8908 SILMA Inc.
