I've seen a couple notes on here again RE: ugly standard front plate mount. Last winter I removed the bracket and bolted the upper edge of the plate directly to where the bracket was, and curved the plate downward to clear the braces inside the "mouth". This tucked the plate out of the way, but it was still visible inside the mouth - a neat solution. However, I've now started finding the limits of this approach - seems to be about 85 degrees. The temp gauge will start wandering a bit above the standard setting, where it always locks in after warmup. On a long, slight grade at 60, the gauge climbed closer to the 2/3 point. This weekend the plate will be removed from that location to somewhere else for the summer. --Jack M.--
