From: jturner@ringer.cs.utsa.edu ( John M. Turner) Subject: New Year's Resolution Date: Wed, 4 Jan 1995 10:17:01 -0500
and I thought that 1994 was a pretty good year... It all started when I swerved to avoid a car who had pulled out into the middle of an intersection, so I could make a left turn. Unbeknownst to me was the fact that there was a median with curbing just past the car. Summarizing: Merry Christmas to me, $200 for 2 new tires plus repair on a steel wheel. (one blown sidewall, one severely bulging sidewall) Then, this last Thursday, I was driving to work. I pulled away from a stop sign only to find a Cadillac in the middle of the intersection. I received minor damage (rather scratched up nose, both turn signals broken, nose pushed in about 1/4 inch on one side, with resulting slight misalignment of the bonnet.) No airbag deployment, even the tow hooks were undamaged, headlights open and retract fine... the car is prefectly driveable (just not very pretty). Funny thing, the first thing the lady said after jumping out of her car and running over to mine was "I'm a single parent". I wasn't in the mood to hear about someone's marital problems at the time. Yesterday, (I know, it's 1995 now), I get THREE rocks in the windscreen within the space of 2 minutes, two of them in my line of vision. I'm sure they came from the opposing traffic lanes, since there was no-one in front of me at the time. My New Year's Resolution is: Don't run into things! John "J.T."
