From: ktanner@julian.uwo.ca Subject: DRLs- don't knock it 'till you try it. Date: Thu, 2 Feb 1995 14:45:11 -0500
For those of you who think DRLs are a dumb idea, and that you can't see as well, I have one question. Have you actually driven in Canada since cars with DRLs have become widespread? They aid the visibility of other cars _enormously_. On two lane roads, you can see a car with DRLs at a much greater distance than one which is dark, even in the middle of the day. When it creeps on towards night, they are even more useful. DRL's are much more effective than airbags, in my opinion, as they are an active safety measure, and not passive (not to mention much less expensive). As for those arguments that they will blind you, I have never had any experience of that. Most cars that use headlights for DRLs run at a reduced intensity. Those that do use full power are not a problem, as your eyes are adjusted for daylight anyhow. So don't knock the concept without experiencing it first. When you do come up, drop by London and say hi! I have yet to see a US model Miata up close. Keith Tanner and Baby
