From: "Alex Little ((919) 254-5038)" Subject: Vibration Date: Fri, 3 Feb 1995 11:48:58 -0500
I experienced a noisy vibration in my car, starting at about 45k miles or so. Unfortunately, it was about 4.5 years after purchase. I naturally assumed it was the dreaded heat shield vibration and I figured I could convince them to fix it for me anyway since it was a known problem. Yes, they agreed to take a look and see if it was the shield and fix it for me...probably a spot weld or two would solve the problem at little or no charge to me we thought. No such luck -- the noise was coming instead from the Catalytic Converter, and my dealer wanted about $600 to fix it because I was out of warranty. Needless to say, the rattle isn't THAT bad except for when the top's down, so I've been putting up with it until I get in the mood to mess with it (ie, not working so much). Later, Alex Little Raleigh, NC PS. The nice folks at PBC suggested I take it to the next level of mazda service because a CC should last a long time. I haven't tried that yet. They suggested that for things that break prematurely, we should at least talk with the regional service reps. At best, you get the problem fixed and at least they get some feedback directly from the customers about problems to keep an eye out for.
