If your cat. converter dies without Mazda picking it up under warranty, you have 2 options. Shop around with vendors listed in the Miata Mag. for a good price (I bought one from PBC). Or, you may consider saving $ and getting a cat from Midas or Mineke. Originally I was concerned about retaining the exhaust note, but as long as the cat is a similar size & shape to the original if it is replaced with a blasphemous non-Mazda part I don't think you'll see the difference. BTW, the Mazda cat is warranteed for ONLY 1 year, compared to 5 for the muffler shops.
