Dwayne, The 1.8L oil filter is easiest changed from the top with a ratchet, 3" extension and end type filter wrench. You won't have any problems except catching it when you unscrew it. The front bottom cover uses only 4 bolts 2 nuts and 3 screws. It is not necessary to remove the front air dam. The movement in your steering could be several small things like brake pads etc. It could be that you are not used to manual steering with good feel. You do get much more feedback from the car. Sinceyou are driving an R, I assume that you are an enthusiast. Next week end the Houston region ( Lone Star Region ) of the Porche Club of America will run another high performance drivers school at Texas World Speedway in College Station. I reccommend at least one of these for any enthusiastic Miata driver. It is too late to enter this event but there will be 2 more in the fall. There will be at least 4 Miatas in attendance next saturday and sunday. These are a bargain at $125 for both days. You will get 10 sessions of track time in a weekend. If you are looking for a Sat. or Sun. drive, corner workers are still needed for this event. You can work a corner for either or both days. You can learn a lot from being that close and figure out if this is for you. Corner workers are allowed a 30 minute session on the track at lunch with an instructor while driving their own car or you can get a ride for hot laps with an instructor in his car. I will be hapy to work with you. Bryan 96 R " Mario "
