I suggested this, but I have checked numerous cars, when & where I could,
for this and less than 1/2 had a readable number.

Another thought:
Each production Pantera had the last four digits of the VIN stamped inside
the headlight buckets during production. The headlight buckets would be
carefully fitted to each car by hand, then they were separated as the cars
were
painted. They needed a way to reunite the proper buckets with the proper
cars,
hence the serial number stamping.
If the number really is an issue, merely remove one of the headlights and
peer down inside--the four digits should be clearly visible.
