Thanks all for suggestions and specs on decklid gas struts.

I have just installed a pair for a Toyota Avensis Estate, 97-00. It seems that
this is a car never sold in the US, at least not under the name Avensis.

They are about 24 mm longer than the stock struts, and are rated at 600N, which
seems reasonable as the old ones, which I measured at around 530N, could not
hold the lid open.

The new struts had the wrong ends, but they were easily removed (M6 thread) and
the ends from the OEM Boges fit directly. My late car had the skinny struts from
the factory, and uses M6 bolts through they eyelet.

The extra 24 mm length provides about 10 cm extra lift, and nothing hits either
open or closed.

I have around 15°C in the garage, and when I open the lid the first time it
stays in whatever position I place it. After doing a full stroke, open/close, it
will provide slightly more lift than needed, and it will rise by itself, until
the cushion close to the end, which will require manual force to overcome.

The old springs had no cushion.

I'm quite confident that these will work fine for me.

Cheers,
Thomas
