[DeTomaso] thermostat questions

Getting the old warmup passage disk (donut as you called it) out is not so
bad - just hammer the edge with a long punch until it bends, then pry it
out. Getting the new disk in with the engine in the car is muchly un-fun
however. You will have to hammer the disk in as it's a pretty tight fit in
the hole and there's barely any room to get a good hammer swing on it. If
your aim is off even slightly, you'll bounce the hammer off the rear
windshield glass, which is tilted so that it really gets in the way. By the
way, glass and moving hammers don't much like each other.

It can be done without breaking the glass. Just take your time and be
careful.

Subject: [DeTomaso] thermostat questions

I know this has been discussed before, but I am not remembering it
correctly. The stock block has some kind of "donut" below the thermostat
that does something to water flow. My rebuilt cleveland block with new
radiator is running hot, and someone suggested removing the donut and
installing a thin plate with a pin hole in it instead, to divert water flow.
How do I remove the stock "donut" with the block in the car? Is this a
useful modification to make? Justin
