[DeTomaso] Advise - Wide or narrow mounting for a delta wing?

I bought my car with the wing already intalled, and it is the wide mounting. 
Whoever installed it went so far as to custom make pieces of metal 1/4" or 
5/16" thick that are installed on the bottom side of the decklid that the wing 
bolts through and the metal pieces extend up into the decklid about a foot and 
a half on each side to reinforce the wing mounting and elminate any flexing.
