Pedro,

Big Foot (aka; Mike Dailey) has the calcs for all the gear changes on his web site as I recall.

Personally, I like the taller 3.77 ring gear and combined with the taller 5th gear. ALL the gears feel allot more usable, espially 1st and 5th.....but then I also have 470RWHP and I just added 27" tall 18" BFG's.

If you are planning a high speed return to ORR at Silver State in Sept consider talking to Larry Stock who said he would rent out his 3.2 ring geared ZF (at a co$t).........Larry ran it one year in ORR but at SS at elevation he couldn't get his Pantera to go much faster then 170 or so....think he said he was running a 3.77 stroker of about 350RWHP.....But with enough HP (600HP I hear is the magic #) you should be able to hit 200 MPH.....which is what (620hp) Darryl is at so we'll see if he goes 200 MPH next month!

But, before you spend your hard earned Army wages on taller gears keep in mind that if your goal here is simply bumping up in speed to 140 or so at the ORR's and decreasing the motor R's the value added in my opinion lends itself to just going to a taller 27-28" diameter tire. You'll need 18 or 19" rear wheels If you add just the taller ring gear and labor you are gonna be at least $4-5 grand in the ZF....thats assuming ALL your synchro's are good and you don't need any added work....add the taller 5th gear AND you can add another +/- $2 grand. How deep are your pockets Captain? ;-]

I'd agree with Mikey if you only have 150RWHP you might have trouble pulling a taller 5th gear. ;-]

<< Mr. Hollywood Dawg & SEAL Johnson,

Have either of you trained professional killers done the calcs after adding
the 3.77 ring gear and the taller 5th gear to your ZF?

At 6,000 RPM what is your speed with a 26" diameter tire? >>

>>>Practically supersonic. :>)

Tom Todak has just such an arrangement on his Pantera. Johnny Woods told me
that it totally blunted the performance of the car in top gear, which is to be
expected. It basically turns the car into a four-speed plus a highway
cruising gear. Of course, Tom's Pantera was famous for delivering a whopping 150
horsepower or something like that at a TPOC dyno day!

Tom has since replaced his wheezy 351C with a stroker Windsor, so it's
probably a bit better. :>)
